I'm experienced with computers and the internet but I've never delved into the world of torrent downloading or torrent clients or any of that works. Can someone tell me the basics or tell me where I can find a guide to help me get started with them? Thanks

Not much to it. You can use Transmission to download torrents. At first the .torrent will download it and you can open it with Transmission. Or just select "Open with Transmission" when downloading. Then, it'll ask you where you want the file to go and that's about it.

This is a decent read (follow up pages, too): http://netforbeginners.about.com/od/peersharing/a/torrenthandbook.htm

As for clients, I recommend Deluge.
