View Full Version : [ubuntu] Only connects on 2nd try & can't disconnect

My connection fails first time, then always connects the second time. Even with the connection established Firefox and Evolution won't work.
Then am unable to disconnect without turning off the modem or crashing NetworkManager.
Also, I'm not sure if all my permissions are set correctly in 'Users & Groups'

Please treat me as a rank beginner.

History:
- installed Jaunty from 'Ubuntu User' magazine. Kernal 2.26.x
- followed another thread to get my Maxon BP3 (Telstra) wireless modem going:
- downloaded ppp.tar.gz, extracted, and put in .../etc/ppp/peers/. Updated to my username and password on lines 21 & 22.
- downloaded sierra.v.1.0.6.tar.gz, extracted, and installed. (potential installation issue possible as first ever installation of anything)
- connected but was unable to use the connection
- Checked the box under my connection tab 'Available to all users'
- connected successfully!! so downloaded and installed all the updates via Update Manager ~260MB so are current at 12 Nov 2009.
- now have symptoms as per described above.

Specs and network tests while connected to Bigpond:
(Excuse my computer name... Poohead derives from a derogatory endearment for our other computer, the one I'm using to post this thread).
