So I put the latest Ubuntu on my iBook, and it runs great, much more so than previous version of linux that I've tried including other version of Ubuntu. Wireless works, sleep works, everything works as it should. I just can't get a handle on how to get the keyboard to work as it would on a mac. I've played with the keyboard layout settings, and I'm stuck as to what to do to get the Apple key to function in place of the function or ctrl keys. Also, is there a way to get the old symbol maps back like in OSX? For instance for an é, I would type "option-e" and then "e". In ubuntu, I can't even figure out how to type a symbol, period.

OK nevermind, I read a post below telling how to swap the Command and ctrl keys. But my question about symbols still remains.

Simply press the symbol key and then the letter you need, this is how it works everywhere (including os X), eg:
´ + e = é
~ + n = ñ
^ + u = û
