Ubuntu’s new Karmic Koala 9.10 release has been highly anticipated as the greatest release ever. In truth, it falls flat on its face in a time when Linux really needed to shine.
----------
It’s the same old story. A new Ubuntu release, a new series of pain and frustration.
Canonical releases a new version of Ubuntu every 6 months, come what may. Unfortunately what most often comes is a system full of bugs, pain, anguish, wailing and gnashing of teeth - as many “early” adopters of Karmic Koala have discovered.
The problem is, Ubuntu makes Linux look bad. As more and more people make the switch to free software this is not a good thing. Linux is meant to be stable, secure, reliable.
Ubuntu 9.10 works great for me.

what they say is true, there is always a problem when i changed my ubuntu version...no sound, screen resolution problem, etc. I don't know why this happen, but 9.04 works great for me, I don't know why 9.10 didn't work well. I was expecting that the errors in 9.04 was fixed in 9.10. I have also observed that every release of ubuntu there is always hardware problems with my laptop.

Just got the CDs from Canonical this afternoon. But I think 9.04's design looks better. Anyway,

He has a point. If we're not that geeky, we could have possibly downloaded Win 7 ISO instead :P

It really makes an article really terrible when many of the people commenting are more succinct and articulate.
Also, nice work on the "research" for the article...

well dapat lagyan na lang nila ng tag na beta yung di LTS release kc as i have experience mas reliable ang LTS kesa mga bagong release..... or magrelease na lang kaya sila sa public ng mga LTS only tapos yang mga .10 ay para na lang sa mga beta testers....
eto rin sabi ng iba...

Because "[Linux Magazine] Hey Ubuntu, Making Linux Look Superb" wouldn't get as many eyeballs reading the ads that generate income.
Being contentious appears to be the only way they can do it, seeing as the writing ability won't.

I can sort of see what is the basis of this evaluation.
I'm sure someone already noticed that the new xsplash of 9.10 is slower than the usplash of 9.04. not to mention that the GRUB2 implemented gained a lot of critics, as most users are either newbies to Linux who just saw and tested 9.04 or people who're already familiar to the GRUB. Then of course the usual "x soft/hardware not working" appears in every release, so as much as I hate to tell, Karmic needs a lot of fixing.
But this doesn't mean Karmic is done badly. Media just wanted to somehow discredit Ubuntu, because as far as I know, they have totally no idea what can every release do (improvements, tweaks, etc.).
I also noticed the constant "xx linux brand is better than yy linux brand" argument on every forums of their respective distros. Well, if they're already happy with their distro, I just wish they just encourage people to use their distro, rather than bashing another distro.
Besides, it's just a month since Karmic has been officialy released. Let's give it a chance to be evaluated properly. So far, no problems on me. I can even run MS Office 2007 without crashes on my Karmic.

My only comment for all of these," DER IS NO PERFECT OS" even MS V*STA is like this on the beggininng, or may i say until now. Thats why MS released WIN 7 to be the successor of vista, because of the errors and stability issue of the previous OS. so ubuntu will work like that also and besides there is nothing that cannot be fix., just need to explore how to do it. dont blame everything on the creator. just help the creator to improve the system.

*.10 Will always be a buggy release but with lots of features.
*.04 Is more on stability but less features.
But the topic is false, since ubuntu is not rebranded as linux similar to andriod.

Hay... New ones will tend to be more buggy than the more reliable ones...
Accessibility-wise, Linux just keeps on getting better on it... Mas mabagal nga lang kesa Windows, pero it improves continuously.
I did some tweaks and fixes to Orca to make it read some new apps sa Koala, as with the display problems and sound or other hardware problems, as long as you have the original drivers that goes with device, you won't get lost naman.
As for the writer who did the article, I think he really needs to dig deeper inside Ubuntu and make it a daily habit or else, he will just end up writing those class of articles over and over again...
As with Windows 7, it's fine with me because it feels like more Ubuntu now than it was in Vista... Hahahaha...

I like 9.10 so far among all the releases made by canonical. So far thats the fastest and easiest to manage. With my Video Card, I always configure my xorg.conf before I reboot. This I perform even with other linux distros.
It's definitely faster and more reliable by far. Even if I compare this with puppy linux considering that I am using Gnome. Ano pa kaya kung gamitan ko ng Flux o Openbox.

may be true, i prefer a solid rock release every one year.

And not to mention the long way that Ubuntu Hardy Heron had gone by!
Wala pa akong alam sa Ubuntu noon, pero I'm sure na hindi ka prestigious ng Hardy ngayon yung sa noon. It is just a proof of Linux improving as well.
Asahan natin na Ubuntu Lucid Lynx will be very buggy at the start, but sooner or later it will get a lot of updates it will fix the system on the long run.

That's why its open source,
we need a community who could also help build ubuntu more better and satisfying for the user who looks for a nice OS. And I agree with upbeatfury@yahoo.com compare naman sa MSoft eh may hundreds of employees silang binabayaran eh ang ang linux community ay hindi na kailangan bayaran pa dahil binabayaran na natin sila ng mga report ng bugs para i-develop pa ng husto ang kanilang OS.

Ubuntu 9.10 works great for me.
I rely think that ubuntu should concentrate more on the stability of the system.less versions per year but more stable.
I think people are looking for stable distribs and not shiny ones. (I love ubuntu, don't get me wrong) but this is the bad part in ubuntu.. not rely stable..
why not make juste one release a year but make it more stable...
This is juste my opinion. And once agen don't get me wrong I rely love linux and ubuntu.. ;)
