Just thought that everyone would like to know---someone has posted a very good Xsplash for Ubuntu on GnomeLook: http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/PackoXsplash+HD?content=115120&PHPSESSID=8fb63b1ae567ea589adcc7d6551454eb

The throbber is the best part........

That throbber is making rounds. I remember back when it was a jerky mess that didn't loop properly.

Nice. Thanks for link. Works a treat. Hope they change as per your comment. Hope this gets put in the incoming artwork

All weed need now is a usplash that does something. Or get rid of it all together.

That throbber reminds me of the one from Windows 7, but I like it.

I was just messing around trying to at least change color on my xsplash. Thanks for this link.
The guy needs to use spell checker though :)

very nice indeed! I hope that we will be able to see it in karmic too.

You can have it in karmic right now.

/usr/share/images/xsplash ;)

Just backup the existing contents into a folder called backup.

Test with
sudo xsplash

I thought the original idea was to lose usplash, and just go with xsplash.

Exactly get rid eventually. Yeah.

The xsplash is one of the few things I don't like about Karmic so I changed mine (usr/share/images/xsplash)

Very... Vista. Nice though.

I installed this and it's pretty nice, I hope the default throbber is changed eventually to something other than a horizontal line; this makes the boot experience a little more unique. Although I still spend most of my time looking at usplash! ;)

It didn't quite work for me. The "Ubuntu" gets overlaid an off a smidgen. Also its not quite full screen. There is a white border. I have only 1024x768 ability. I tried stretching using gimp to no avail. So in the end I just colored the brown to blue.

I have to admit having see the usplash part of the karmic boot I have become a rather big fan of a simple logo during boot with little if any movement or color.. I believe this would be referred to as OS X envy

I haven't seen a Mac bootup, so I don't know what it looks like, but yes I prefer a simple logo.

I don't like the full screen throbber thing at all. You gave me an idea. Make it smaller instead of the full screen.

Neither have I but I figure that is what it would look like, it sounds very "apple" at least.

It's very minimalistic.

even if it delays just a little the booting time, is very pleasing to the eyes. Thanks for the backup notice as well.

Nice, I love it!

You should make a .deb for install.

Could someone make a splash like a Cylon from BattleStar Galactica? It would be cool ;)
