Here is a preview of some icons I'm making in Inkscape. I guess they bring nothing new really but I'm just doing them for fun. Please tell me what you think of them. :)

Looks good, but why does the png one remind me of XP? :-)

Nothing new, that is true. But the icons are still very nice. :)

Very nice work. The MIME icon tend to look like their windows counterpart, but the whole thing looks good. Good luck finishing this project.

Needs more variation in color, I think. Blue is a very nice interface color, and it is usually good to remain consistent, but certainly there are things that would be more appropriately colored differently (that would not clash with the blue), lest you risk the icons looking too similar on first glance. Have you tried adding yellow to any of the icons (ie the GAIM one) just to see what effect it would have?

Thanks for all advices everybody! I'll keep them I'm mind. It will probably take quite a while before I have the time for another update though.

Not bad! They do look similar, though. Consider changing the colours, blue only gets dull.

similar is great, if it mean an icons 'set'/'theme' and not a fruit salad :p
I like them but would make 2 suggestions.
1. be careful with round and glossy stock navigation icons. Most of them are difficult to see at 24px, much less for those of us that use 16px toolbar icons
2. no round shadows on non-round icons. Despite the popular lazy use of these quick, easy, unrealistic, round shadows, more realistic shadows are possible.

When can we see it on our desktops? There are many other themes you can inhereit from along the same design, so it's not like it'd be incomplete on our desktops.

Adding more colors is a good suggestion. I'll get to it.
@ bvc:
Good points. I'll change those things before I make the theme avaliable. And added quite a lot more icons. :)
I'm not sure when it will be ready, I can only make them in my spare time. But probably in about two to three weeks or so... We'll see.
btw. I really like your themes!

There are a lot of similar themes out there already, but nevertheless it#s very nice.
Read the GNOME Human Interface Guidelines! Having extension labels on the icons is pure evil.
Speaking of the HIG, what you did very well is:
The "txt" icon doesn't habe meaningful text in it, just symbols that everyone recognizes as text.
The @ sign in the mail icon is bloody genius! It is internationally known, and still fast on the eye, not overloaded.
Consider re-doing the navigation (arrow) icons without the circle around them. They're harder to identify if the all have the same shape.

Oh yes, come to think of it, KDE running under mandrakelinux had a nice feature of displaying a portion of the text file in the file preview. It wasn't much but it was a lot more meaningful than having a whiz-bang icon which told you nothing of the text contained in the file.
I wonder if its possible to do this using gnome icon themes.

try to put those icons on a less used colour. for instances, try orange. that would be nice along with an ubuntu wallpaper.

gHIG isn't followed...not even the gnome icons follow it. Common sense comes into play here. Take the txt icon. Make another with a diff look and characters. Now look at them 36x36 or 48x48 on your desktop...
...not so good now, eh? Got to have labels and that is why the gnome icons have labels. Same with image mimes. Do you think anyone is going to take the time to learn what 5 diff images mean for 5 diff image mimetypes? Or 10 diff icons for 10 music mimetypes? Or 12 text/symbols for 12 mimetypes? No...
please use labels!!! The lack of use of labels is the biggest flaw of most icon themes that read the gHIG w/o applying common sense and looking at the gnome icons. So what do people do? Make one image for 5 in a catagory w/o any labels. That is completely unuseable. Everyone knows what a firefox is...everyone knows what an envelope is. It is good to do in a lot of cases but obviously not all, by far.
