Running U9.04 on Dell Dimension B110 with this graphics card:

VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)

My driver enquiry states no proprietary drivers on this system so I'm assuming the graphics driver is in the kernel. I have a new LG 23" monitor. Using the appearance tab, I cannot increase the visual effects past none. The OS spins a while and then tells me desktop effects cannot be enabled.

My question is: do I need a new graphics card to increase the visual effects or is there a driver out there that will solve this problem? Or am I missing something? Thanks.

Hi,
You aren't missing much. The Intel Graphics drivers have undergone a power of work this year. Going by some of the posts that have been around, you're lucky you're seeing anything. Strongly suggest you upgrade to 9.10; I suspect you'll find the problems settle down.

Upgrading to 9.10 did it!
