I don't want to mess up my flawless Karmic. I want to test Lucid in virtualbox. Where can I get the testing iso or is it purely upgrade karmic right now?

If you want to run Lucid in a virtual machine it is best to wait until the alpha 1 is released (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LucidReleaseSchedule), download the iso and install it in a virtual machine.

This is exactly what I am going to do once alpha 1 is released, so that I can at least give something back.

Very well. Thanks.

When the alpha gets released, will they release a list of specific things they want tested? Or is it just day to day use?

To answer the OP's question, it's upgrade right now.

you can use karmic release iso and then change your repos to point to lucid.

Then issue "sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude safe-upgrade" or use the update manager.

Like said, install karmic, then change your sources.list to use lucid, then see my sig for the Ubuntu upgrade and use the Debian way of upgrading.

That's a great update link you have on your sig. Think I will change my sig as well.
As it suggests I also use Clonezilla for backups and partclone.ext4.
