Hello,
I have an ubuntu machine set up as a sorta file server and i want to add a new hard drive so i can access and write to it from my mac, ive heard for ubuntu/windows i use partition the drive in fat32 but should i do the same for a mac or is a different filesystem better?

Thanks

Macs can read/write to FAT32 as well. One word about FAT32, they have a maximum file size (4 or 2 gig, I forget) and it lacks the ability to maintain file permissions.

Since you wrote that you use your ubuntu machine as a file server, you might want to take a look at this: http://www.kremalicious.com/2008/06/ubuntu-as-mac-file-server-and-time-machine-volume/

I followed that howto and it works like a charm.
