I have installed 9.10 64-bit(from 9.04 32-bit) and I noticed that video playing is not as smooth anymore, at least for AVI videos. My graphics card is a GeForce 6200.

In 9.04, I used the glx-180 driver which worked fine. In 9.10, using the same rig, playing the same videos, with the same codecs (restricted extras) the performance was noticeably poorer compared to 9.04. I have tried all the drivers from 173, 180, 185, 190... the results are the same. Although when I tried installing the 180 driver, it seemed to still install and use the 185 driver.

This AVI video I have played very smooth in 9.04, but is choppy in 9.10. The weird thing is, MKV videos seem to play better in 9.10. Does anybody have any ideas on what the problem is?

No idea what the problem is, but I'm using a Geforce 6200 APG card, and I'm experiencing the same thing.

I've been look all over the place but haven't found a solution yet.

I'll keep looking.:)

Do either of you have desktop effects enabled? If so, that's your problem.

Hi,

I have the same problem with a Nvidia GeForce 6200 AGP card. I have Kubuntu 9.10 (32bit), KDE 4.3.4 and driver 185.
The problem occured with the update of the kernel to 2.6.31-18. Before this update everything was running fine - even with desktop effects.

It makes no differences now if I activate the desktop effects now or not - the graphics performance is bad.
