I have a Pangolin Performance panp4n. I'm curious if anyone had any difficulty when upgrading to 9.10 or if I should wait. A cursory look at the sys76 forum made me think that there might be some sound problems but nothing else. I don't want to have the large number of problems which happened in the last upgrade.

The best thing for you to do is download the installation CD and then run it in LiveCD mode. Now you can test most things to see if there are any issues -- if you are happy with the way your hardware is working in a live session, go ahead and install Karmic (I recommend a clean install), but if you run into problems, then wait.

My experience has been that a majority of problems have been occuring when people do blind updates -- no testing, not reading the forums, not checking for known issues with the new version. But even with testing, nothing is ever guaranteed. I always make a full backup (using rsync for my /home partition and partimage (from a liveCD) for my root (/) partition) -- that way I can always fully restore my system if something goes wrong.

I also have the PanP4n. I fresh installed Karmic and have been very happy with it. The overall number and severity of niggles have dramatically decreased as opposed to Jaunty. But I wouldn't know about upgrading.

I'd wait a bit unless there was a compelling reason for you to upgrade. I have a Panp5 and did a fresh install (not upgrade) after backing up my data. For me, a problem with Flash was a show-stopper and I scrapped the install and reinstalled Jaunty.
