View Full Version : Kubuntu getting worse and worse

It wasn't really clear where this belongs, so I post it here.

Being a kubuntu user since 4 years,
the last year I have wondered why I did it when I upgraded my distibution.

Since the last versions of kubuntu it has all gone downwards: slow startup, errors, simple menus being gtk apps (I'm talking about the distro, not kde which has improved a lot).
And now I upgraded to the latest version yesterday I noticed startup time has increased alot, my brightness controls don't work anaymore (fn+f7/f8 now increases/decreases the sound volume) and the computer won't shut down/restart etc when selected in the menu.
I have to do it with console commands.
And my keyboard settings always change back when I try to edit them.

I have the impression more work is done on ubuntu but far less on kubuntu these days, what makes the quality very low these days.
If I can't fix these problems soon I think I'll have to get another distro.

KDE gets worse and worse *hides from hoppi*

If you don't like Kubuntu, then switch to a distro that uses KDE it better. PCLinuxOS, Mandriva, OpenSuse. Or Arch with KDE.

Wow this must have been the FASTEST I have ever jumped onto a KDE-related thread! hehe

It's usually just timing!

But yeah, I really have no idea about real Kubuntu as at least until they finish with this: http://www.kubuntu.org/news/timelord , I recommend to people that they install Ubuntu, and then install kubuntu-desktop and KDE 4.3.3 on top of that :)

I have even switched from GDM to KDM and tweaked my login a bit, it looks really cool now and works really well, and it really didn't take me that long at all :)

Use arch. Most people in here who want KDE usually jump on the arch bandwagon.

That's not my experience, I think it's getting better and better, not planning on leaving Kubuntu any time soon too much fun watching it develop.

I too think the KDE 4 series is getting better, but it is slow going in its improvement.

people need to go easier on KDE ._.

It really is the best desktop I have EVER used, and I've used a lot of desktops...

I have always liked KDE. I have never liked Kubuntu.

Do what most others say and use Arch. It's probably the best way to use KDE.

I never see that point of these threads.

Half the people make some inane comment about which DE they prefer.
A Quarter of the people suggest using arch (no matter what topic)
A Quarter of the people leave comments saying that they hate kde, and how kde 3 was perfect.

I tried it on my old laptop. I guess it was KDE 3. It didn't appeal to me. Too Windows like.

Inever said kde is bad, I love it.
So I won't switch to a gdm based distro like ubuntu.

But it's just that every time their's a new kubuntu I have to deal with more problems then in the previous version.

Maybe I'd check out arch

you can always switch GDM for KDM :)

That's what I did to my Ubuntu :)
