And to think for years I have been telling people not to touch their monitor screens because of the oil on their fingertips...

Some interesting UI-ideas there.

I wonder what Apple will do with it? Semi-interactive visualisations for iTunes? Touch-And-Drag? Some kind of weird Expose?

Signs are pointing to a new iPod (to come out April 1, Apple's 30th Anniversary), that drops the scroll wheel and expands the screen to a 3.5" touch screen. Also, other people suggest the patent could also be used with a more interactive front row (Apple's often picked-on 'Media Center' software). Lastly, they could again be using it for the next generation of Mac laptops, moving into the world of tablets.

Me w.. aaan *twitch* tschhhh

I suddenly think of Bourne identity or the Zion computers in the matrix...

Patents... *sigh*
That means non-cheap...

Even if those screens would cost >50k in the beginning, price would sink with time,
with patents, however, the rate will be so much slower:(

Not really, no one is gonna price things out of reach. First time products tend to be priced as skimmers meaning that they are overpriced up the **** for the early adopters/pioneers who have the money to spend but a few months into it the price goes down pretty quickly. It all depends on how expensive it is to make them really and how many people would be willing to get one in the first place.

@prizrak:
True, even if "out of reach" is highly relative;) , what I meant was that, with patents,
a smaller portion of the product developers has control over the development and
market because of less competition.

Ofcourse. I remember reading something that the idea of showing pictures online first arose out of the need to be able to view porn... correct me if I'm wrong.
