I have started testing/using Karmic since alpha 1 was released, on my xps-m1330 machine. When running alpha 2 the system took about 19 seconds, but now with standard 2.6.31-4 on final it took about 1min.. and about the same with lucid 2.6.32-2.
Any ideas?
My custom kernel during alpha-2 took 10 to 16 seconds, but todays gcc update screwed up everything, so i cant even compile the kernel now.

Did you upgrade from alpha-2 all the way to final?
If so, I would suggest a complete re-install. I also upgraded during alpha/beta, but found that after a complete re-install, it was much much faster booting.

Do a search on bootchart threads, there is an extra 45 seconds added to bootchart, that wasn't there in the early alphas.

I agree after a fresh install Karmic is booting a lot faster, I just kept upgrading from alpha 2 on, I always like to do a clean install after the release, because my install seems to have a lot of extra cruft after all the upgrades.
