Does anyone have any insight as to when 8GB DDR3 SoDimm laptop memory module kit pricing will decrease?

I need to upgrade from 4GB, but the price/GB sky-rockets after the 4GB barrier.

I need to upgrade from 4GB, but the price/GB sky-rockets after the 4GB barrier. The same is true for DDR2 RAM. While a part of the price difference between 2 GB modules and 4 GB modules is cost of production, the main issue is simply supply. The manufacturing facilities produce a much larger number of 1 and 2 gig units, since they are the most popular. They just aren't geared up for the larger modules. Once there is a greater demand, they will start producing the 4 GB modules in higher numbers, and the prices should begin falling at that point. It will probably be awhile before that happens. A vast majority of laptops are still built using the 1 and 2 gig modules, so that is what the RAM manufacturers are making.
