because your posts are not in bold to u but they are to other people its the same for everyone

Do you mean on the page where all the threads in a particular sub forum are shown?

Does it have anything to do with which threads you have read and which you haven't (bold)?

when you are signed in to ubuntuforums, the bold/darker font represents threads you have not read or threads with new posts that you have not read yet
