Hi All,

I've always found myself juggling between MatLAB, MathCAD, and Maple to do my acoustic and circuit simulations. Now that I've made the (nearly) full-time switch to Linux, I'm searching for the best way to go about it, and I think I've found it with sagemath.org (http://ubuntuforums.org/www.sagemath.org).
It's written in Python and mixes the other open source projects together. It seems much more elegant than messing with GNU Octave, Maxima, and PyMath independently.

The Sage mission: "Mission: Creating a viable free open source alternative to Magma, Maple, Mathematica and Matlab.":D

If you haven't seen it yet, please check it out. This project is a great idea that needs momentum.
If you're already using it, I'd love to hear of your experiences.

I installed it from the repository, and have had a few problems getting things going (mostly 'cause I'm a *nix n00b, but there are a few bugs that I've learned of already). They released a new v4.2, which I'm downloading now and I'm hoping it's better.

Can someone please ask one of the repository administrators to update sagemath to v4.2?

Thanks very much!
Yar!

I don't think they upgrade software in the repos usually, other than for new releases. But, don't worry I have posted a short instruction on how to get the binary from Sage website: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=7645167&postcount=10 .

Sage has been discussed quite a bit in the forums so you might wan't to also read some other old threads.
