install Bibus 1.4.3 tar.gz via 8.04

I have extracted Bibus tar.gz into a desktop folder Bibus-1.4.3 but don't know how to proceed. I've read a goodly number of tar.gz posts and installed build-essential, then used ls and cd to be in the Bibus-1.4.3 directory and tried ./configure (as recommended in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=246092

Response was akin to "command not found".

I don't know how to install via the Bibus-1.4.3 folder extracted from a sourceforge bibus tar.gz file.

Forgot to set email-notification.

No help with the issue, but with regards to email notification you can simply click "Thread tools" at the top of the page and set an email notification from there, you don't have to write a new post for that. Incidentally that also means you can subscribe to other people's threads that you haven't posted on at all, which can be handy.
