So I installed karmic (clean install) and it seems like everything is working rather well except for general weirdness with changing symlink icons.
I have 2 ext4 and 3 ntfs partitions.
I can assign custom icons to symlinks, but the icon I chose is only displayed if the link resides on a ntfs partition - on ext4 I get the vanilla folder/mime type icons.
Assigning custom icons to files/folders works fine.
Changing the icon of a symlink and moving/copying it around results in it showing my icon whenever on ntfs, vanilla icon when on ext4, so the change "sticks".
In short; wtf?
