Hi I was just wondering how do I install realtime kernel on my ubuntu installation. Also how do I get midi to work with ardour? How do I create a midi pattern/play a midi pattern. I have installed JACK and Ardour. Just a basics guide would be great if you could direct me to it. I've used various programs before such as Cubase and Ableton, mainly Ableton which is fool proof pretty much, but im keen to try my hand at ardour. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Im running 8.04 Hardy as that seems to be the most stable version of buntu!

There's a useful guide in the wiki for UbuntuStudio but it seems to be down atm

I don't believe Ardour 2.* supports midi, other than basic transport and metronome. My knowledge of midi on Linux is quite limited, but Ardour is not the place to start for that. Maybe try Rosegarden ?

I would also suggest rose garden. Also, try this, record your midi's with audacity to turn them into mp3, then try using them in ardour/rosegarden. Not sure if that will work for you, but it got me farther with ardour. I am still figuring it out too!

I use Qtractor and LMMS to record MIDI patterns and afterwards I edit them to my needs. Not really an answer to your questions but it might broaden your possibilities.
