Firefox 3.5.3 comes with a major security-update.
Using this version, and installed this version in this way: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/firefox, please update firefox 3.5.3 via gksudo firefoxto firefox 3.5.4 as mentioned. (on the site)

You should be extremely careful trying to run firefox as root. You're giving it the power to do whatever it wants.

There is no need to update to Firefox 3.5.3 if you are using Firefox 3.0.x. The 3.0.x series is updated automatically in Ubuntu Jaunty when a new security patch is released and it is the recommended method of update.

gksudo firefox is the/a way to update firefox 3.5.3 ==> 3.5.4 (outside the off sources)
after that you are able to update via the update manager within firefox. There is no intention to run firefox as root......(there is no way to update firefox without sudo rights)
After the update firefox should run as usual.
Again this is the way to update firefox after using this method:
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/firefox
perpectly safe imho.

It seems now that you are referring to an update from Firefox 3.5.3 to Firefox 3.5.4, but your first post says Firefox 3.5.3, which has been released for a while, comes with a security update.

indeed no need at all, but if a member
has via the psychocatway the 3.5.3 version, this version is not updated at all by ubuntu! So this is why I put this forward, you have to update this version yourself.....to 3.5.4.

Nevermind I guess I wasn't paying attention to the first post, which is kind of confusing.
