hi all,

i am goin thru an under graduate course in computer science , our trainer has announced an open challenge for all to bring down his server, I am really excited about it , but have no clue how to do it ......
So I thought its better to ask the global security gurus ....:P (I have been using the forums for getting help but this is the first time i am posting a thread ..)

The server runs on redhat server edition 2.18

Thankin in advance...

You're probably not going to get any realistic answers here. People who know how tend not to give that information away for free -- especially without being sure as per how that information will be levereged in the future.

My advice: call your trainer and ask him to show you the server. While standing in front of him, reach out and turn it off / unplug the network cable / etc..

I think this is a stupid question to be asking here. This is the Ubuntu support forum people help people. I for one is getting a lot of great help from the people here and I think the comment is right how do we know how the info will be used in the future? and besides isn't it strictly prohibited to post that kind of stuff here?

1. Open the optical media drive
2. insert a windows disk
3. Install windows
4. let the server connect to the internet.

It should be down within an hour.

maybe look at the server howto's on how to find open ports. your prof may have purposly left a port open for you to find..... read books on server sercurity vonrabilitys... the best way to find your answer might be to get an old comp and put together a file server and sercure it.

From the way you asked the question, I'm not sure you aren't up to no good.
