There used to be a discussion forum on here that allowed users to discuss things such as politics and religion. It was intelligent discussion (mostly) but like any forum you have your fair share of little kids who want to voice there opinion in matters they don't really understand about (usually). Plus, when it comes to things like conflicts and opinion it's human nature to disagree. This lead to conflict on the boards.

Basically the reason was that it didn't fit well with the Ubuntu philosophy and spirit of the community. I suspect that they just wanted to ease the load on the server.

Essentially, yes, that's the reason. Because of the topic being discussed, and people having strong views about some things, it became a pain to moderate, and we found that a lot of the time, all the staff were doing was moderating that section of the forum, thus, we closed it.

I don't really want to hear about you popping your ticks, so... I think it's for the best.

LOL.

Politics and religion are two subjects that have the ability to create emotions that change a normal human being into a fire breathing zealot.

It's the same thing in life outside of the net.

Sometimes saying less is best.

Just what, exactly, are popotics?

I don't know for sure; I misread it as "pop optics" at first, which suggests eyes popping out.

The sad thing about religion and politics is that passions run high, which far too often spoils what could be an interesting and enlightening discussion.

I believe the fundamental purpose of this forum is to provide Ubuntu users with an opportunity to engage others who share their OS interest. Exchanging, information and providing support directly related to the OS.

With all the available web sites that are dedicated to political or religious communications, opening a section (in this forum) which would enviably be controversial might detract from it's objective. I suspect it would result in the mods investing significant amounts time in a futile effort to maintain control.

When it involves either one of these topics I must agree with:
