Hello, i've switched from gnome to xcfe - to have a less consuming desktop, and it seems that 'xubuntu studio' is quite the leap forward in stability and speed on my machine. Since i'm quite happy with this setup, i'd like to delete the gnome desktop - but without deleting most of what is dependent on it. In short, i'd like to keep everything working as now, but without the option to switch to gnome (and liberate some hd space like that). Any ideas on which packages to remove and which not? thanks!

to remove gnome, you must remove the gnome-desktop package. mark it for complete removal in synaptic and see what is removed with it. if you dont need the files, then proceed or try: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/purexfce

Hey Megatron.
Myself Fraserstaple and I read your entire posting. According to your problem I am suggesting to you that insert the installation CD into CD drive and only uninstall the desktop application. Anyways Thanks.
