View Full Version : How do they see it so fast?

Really, this post is addressed to all the mods out there. How do you all see our posts so fast?

Do you all take on different sections of the forum and monitor that section? Do you receive some kind of notification that a thread has been created or that a post has been submitted? (I hope not...that's way too many notifications for my taste)

How do you all do it? I ask because I am very impressed at how well you all maintain the forum and how well you all put out "fires."

Is there a mod out there willing and allowed to share?

SEE THAT! Look how fast that got moved!

How in the world do you all do that?

You should someday test-drive vBulletin - quite lots of stuff to make your ( mod' ) life easier.

Nope, we just use the forum just like you do. When we see something we take care of it.

But the reason we catch things so quickly is because our members make use of the "report abuse" feature below your avatar. This generates a report on posts. Since any member can report abuse, the entire community is our eyes. So really, the community itself is largely responsible for how well this forum is maintained.

Very cool...thanks for the insight. :-)

Dang...now I want a red name!

Also, do you mods know each other on a more personal level or is it just when you see each other in the forum? Not like you can go out and have a beer after work kinda thing.

Well that depends. :) Some are a half a world away so it makes for a long commute to catch a beer :P

I too am impressed at how well maintained these forums are. The mods do do a pretty good job. I have not liked a forum community in years, but this forum is a great place. As I get more and more posts in, I realize though, that sometimes you don't get a response. But the odds are you will have at least 5 people willing to help you on common issues.

Great place to get support, ideas, and generally talk about ubuntu!

I agree that the Mods here are doing a great job most of the time. Sometimes someone gets through then the qusetions and answers can get pretty weired.

But a good question here always gets a good answer.

On the whole the mods here do a good job. We can do our part by using the "report abuse" button when we encounter a post that could be problematical.

And yes, this being an international forum, having an informal get-together for something like a beer can be problematical.

Lies. I know that the mods have the secret power of teleportation!

Of course, things do get a little bad sometimes, like when Ubuntu and Geek teleported to the same spot at once, thus creating Ubuntu-Geek.

No offense, but that seems oddly like how Big Brother trained kids to spy on their parents for him.

That means that Ubuntu-Geek is George Orwell! Is Matthew Elvis? :D

Despite being halfway across the world from a lot of the mods, I'd say we all get on pretty well actually. Though in my opinion, that's also a key factor in how well the staff work :)

I'm so disillusioned, I thought for certain all the staff had direct mind links to their PC's. sigh...

Next thing you know the staff will inform us that their just normal people. OMG, I'm going to need psychiatric support services.

Please - lie to me....

Ban me PLEASE! :D And give me a not very hefty really hefty warn as well! :D (like 95%)

I really mean it! I've always been a (semi) good guy on forums and I want to experience a ban, haha

There's some time to waste ATM, so don't ban me right now :)
In 2..3 hours would be perfect.
