It seems very worth-while. Does anyone have it working or know equivalent plugins for Pidgin?

Why don't you use Pidgin/Kopete for AIM?

Apparently there are a lot of features that was just added to AIM, like something for displaying location, how many people have you on their buddy list, facebook/twitter updates (even if they are deleted), etc.

Most of that seems like pointless crap, but then again it is AOL. Sorry I can't help you, I don't install AOL's crap in Windows let alone Linux. Good luck :)

Since its a free download I'm giving it a download now to give it a go under Wine/Codeweavers/PlayonLinux - will report back with success/failure.

Not really, AOL is my ISP. Their software never works properly.

By default the AIM 7.0 installs but fails to launch out with the following message: jeff@eeetop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/AIM$ wine aim.exe
err:module:import_dll Library MSVCP90.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program Files\\AIM\\aim.exe") not found
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\Program Files\\AIM\\aim.exe" failed, status c0000135
On my netbook atm but when I get in front of my main system I will pull that .dll file it asks for off my Windows VM and see if a manual over ride resolves the issue.

Works fine in VBox, although i'd prefer WINE tremendously more

Like the browsing software. Like the connection software. Like everything AOL's poisoned little hands code.

It was a free dialup internet service supported by advertisements.
Using a secondary shell such as Litestep one was able to move the adverts to another desktop and ignore them.
