Creating moving picture animation

I'm trying to make a video for a project. The only thing I want to do is piece together some images and make them move around, i.e. a deer 'running' across the screen.
I've tried looking at synfig but there's no option to import images. F4l and uira appear dead or broken. Is there a program that can do what I want?
