View Full Version : Proposal to rename the Community Cafe.
Sand & Mercury
October 17th, 2009, 07:49 AM
While I love the mental image of going into some Ubuntu-themed cafeteria to pull up a chair and shoot the breeze with my fellow geeks over a steaming Latte, I think an even better idea would be to up the ante a bit. Let's make the community cafe a place to mosey in, kick back with a juicy marinated steak (medium rare) and a frosted glass of Crown Lager and the jukebox cranking classic 80s/90s rock and pop tunes. After all, what could possibly be classier than an evening out with a belly full of cow, a mug of cold beer and a room full of laughs?
Thus, I propose the Community Cafe be renamed to the Community Bar & Grill.

I think we should rename it the "Community Doctor's Waiting Room". A place where we can all sit and discuss our various ailments and maladies. Viruses and worms = Swine Flu and tapeworms. Mmm... tapeworms...
Anyway, a lot of this site's users are under 18. And I won't frequent a bar where there are ruddy kids running about. Do you really want to confine underage users to the Community Garden (where they can sit with a bottle of pop and a packet of crisps)?

Your idea is a solution in search of a problem.

I voted no because I'd rather see the name changed to OMG Pink Ponies. We could make all the text magenta colored.

... and the text color would have a calming effect on the posters, so we could lift the restrictions on political and religious debate and blow some life in this lame excuse for a hang-out place ...

As long as they still serve coffee, sure, why not?
I really don't plan on getting drunk, just achieving Ballmer's peak, maybe.

Ah, well Canonical and therefore Ubuntu is located in England.
You only need to be 18 here.

You only need to be 18 here.Actually, if it's renamed to 'Community Grill & Bar' (as opposed to 'Community Bar & Grill'), then it becomes a place chiefly for the serving of food. Therefore, you need only be at least 5 years old to consume alcohol on the premises (unless Stephen Fry lied to me)!
EDIT: Also, is it not based on the Isle of Man?

Only with parents consent, so if your on your own, you`ve got to be 18.

"Community bar and grill" sounds delicious, but how how well would it cater for smokers? Or maybe an area for smokers wouldn't be needed because they'd be at the Community Doctor's Waiting Room.
