I may have a lead on a ThinkPad T61. I was wondering if anyone else is using a ThinkPad with similar specs or the same specs. What has your experience been? Ive come across google searches that indicate to me that Ubuntu in general is a bit trickey at times on these notebooks. I'm more curious about people's experience with Ubuntu Studio programs though. Any programs not work well with the graphics card? Any buggyness?

hmm with all that power compiz doesn't seem to make nice with the thinkpad. hopefully that'll be corrected soon. I'll still stick with ubuntu on my pad if I get it! Thanks for the help!
Does anyone own a thinkpad? whats your personal experience?

I have tested ubuntu on a few thinkpads over the years and they seem to work fairly well.

I have a T61 and it seams to work very well with Jaunty 64bits. I use it for internet, text edition and VirtualBox to run other OS stuff (basically communications and database). I don't dual boot.
Wi-fi, bluetooth, ethernet, audio and video are doing fine.
Still can't get the Ricoh SD/MMC reader driver yet, but it is not a priority for me.
I think the core temperature is a little higher than when it runned Windows XP, but up to 70°C is not to worry about. It seams that the fan never operates at full speed.
Regards.

I only have Thinkpads and at this time I have a T43, and a X61 tablet. My father has a T30, and an R61. All of these are running Ubuntu. The T30 will only work with 8.10 due to the WIFI drivers. So all I have to say is yes they work and I love mine!!!!!!
