I'm sure someone has made a theme for it. Check around at gnome-look.org.

If you want Win 7 just use Win 7!!!!!! I for one would not butcher Ubuntu in that way.

Sorry, Seem to have started something. If you set up Gnome Compiz Fusionfully you will not want to go back to Windows 7.

I will, say Windows7 Desktop is the best Windows Desktop yet but not half as much fun, as a fully set up Compiz Fusion on Ubuntu.

Try some of this First.

There? Maybe? I honestly have no clue what Windows 7 looks like.

heres how I do it

Download the KDE Desktop, since windows ripped off that look anyway.

KDE also has a windows 7 theme which is even closer to what Windows does.

sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

I hear

sudo apt-get install KDE

is fine as well.

Interesting idea. Is it possible to make Ubuntu (or actually Linux) look and behave like Win7? My guess (full disclosure: I am strongly biased against Microsoft) is that Ubuntu can get closer to Win7 than Win7 can get to Ubuntu.

I'm guessing it's possible to skin Linux into almost anything whereas I'm guessing there's not a hope of skinning a thing of any version of Windows. Ever try to change the ghastly colour of the XP start button?

To make a Linux-based Win7 skin would probably take a lot of work, but I'm guessing fairly sure that no amount of work could skin Win7.

Could be wrong...

you're using Ubuntu so why you want to have a window theme o.O. I think the Ubuntu's theme is good.

This is how my Ubuntu looks - best of both worlds maybe.

I don't understand why the mention of Windows gets people so up and crazy.

I mean, Windows 7 DOES look good. So does OS X. And I hate OS X because of the way Apple has it to where you need their expensive hardware to use it, or do it illegally with a hack on only SOME PCs that can run it...

BUT, I at least give them the rightfully deserved acknowledgement of a beautiful desktop.

That said, Ubuntu, or any Linux that can use Compiz Fusion can look better than OS X and 7, but still, if someone wants to have that look on Ubuntu, why judge and turn the thread into a MS bashing one?

The ever flexible kde can look like Windows 7. Please note - I haven't actually tried this software. :D

If you like the W7 Taskbar have a look at Dockbarx (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/DockbarX?content=101604). Not only is it using less screen real estate then a classical Dock, it also is one of the very few gnome-panel applets that truely work with a vertical Panel setup.
