i would like to add some applications to my moblin. i downloaded the latest v2.0 and am working with the live image. i was wondering if it was possible to add OOv3.0 and a pdf reader. does moblin work as any other linux distro. if so where is the synaptic manager? in order to add apps should i install moblin on my netbook?

I have tried both the dell and vanilla ubuntu variants and both had OO3 preinstalled. It is under the "applications" tab under "office" As for compatibility it will run anything ubuntu runs. Synaptic is under "settings" it is called program manager....or something like that. I don't have a install of moblin handy to check with at the moment...

Are you using the Ubuntu Moblin Remix (which has both a 9.10 live version, as well as the 9.04 install-only one); or are you using the version from the Moblin site (built on fedora)?

If you are using the later, I don't see Openoffice in the Moblin repos, but you could probably install it from http://openoffice.org. If you are using the Ubuntu version, it is in the Ubuntu repositories and can be installed just like any other ubuntu version.

See the sticky on the top of this forum section, there are links there to a couple versions.

Strange. I've tried the 9.10 nightly build, and it says it's installing Openoffice during the install, but later on it says it's removing it again, and once I boot there's nothing but a basic set of apps. Odd.

I'm going to give the Dell 9.04 install a try, maybe it'll have all that figured out and also have support for my wireless card out-of-the-box.

That is really odd....when i last installed it, OO installed during updates, and was in applications menu....i will have to reload this weekend and take a look....

I wouldn't expect any difference in hardware support between the official Moblin and the Ubuntu versions. Essentially all these netbooks share the same hardware, and the drivers are all included. Only thing to be aware is if you use WPA2 to protect your wifi, the Moblin network applet can spontaneously kick you off. Hopefully this will be fixed for 2.1 though.
