opensolaris might work for you. You can even install xp as a guest OS in a container but i do not know if it would be useful for games as i use it for research purposes. Here is their site:

http://opensolaris.org/os/

for containers information:

Hope that helps.

Windows doesn't really like virtual machines. Never could activate them.

Never had any trouble myself. I have two Windows VMs, both activated fine.

pyrofreak99: You said one reason you ditched Ubuntu was because it wouldn't open Windows .exe's. You realise that only Windows uses .exe? Any other OS you try will have the same problem with them that Ubuntu did.

Windows runs just fine in opensolaris containers. I have run many windows vm's in OpenBSD, SunSolaris,Debian, Ubuntu and yes, even inside of windows.
BUT...to the OP..
are you saying you want a virtual machine that can run your windows files?
or are you trying to run a windows file on ubuntu?
There is a huge difference there. As paqman said, the .exe won't run on ubuntu (unless you are using wine, and even then it is usually hit or miss)
If you insist on windows, then install windows. BUT
a decent setup ubuntu machine can run vmware with xp as a guest OS very nicely.
As for games, there would probably be not many that would run on a virtual machine..due mostly to the lack of accelerated graphics drivers, not the OS itself.
