Ok I love Ubuntu, but I also love my gaming. I was so happy to know that every game I play compeitivly is native to linux, the Ut series Quake and ET. But it seems no matter how much I play these games in Linux I cannot do any better than mediocre....but when I boot into Windows and play I am back to my competitive play again and I do very well.

My theory is that I have been playing these games in Windows for so long that I know what to expect as far as my hardware and how it reacts. My biggest concern is the Razer Copperhead mouse I use. I have it set up as best I can for it not being supported and it does very well in Linux, but it seems to perform better in Windows, I fear I will never rid myself of Windows because of things like this. I am not knocking Windows, but I just dislike dual booting.......

Or am I just crazy in the head and there is no difference?

Just looking for some input and ideas is all.

I use an m$ intellimouse explorer (I'm almost ashamed to say it  ) through usb.

As far as control is concerned I can notice no difference between the 2 OS's.

As far as being competitive is concerned... I am certainly no master acrobat in ut2k4! :)

There are those that don't believe me when I say that my Ubuntu box is faster on the desktop, internet & in ut2k4, than when I boot into xp pro'!?

I guess that is their problem, 'cause it certainly isn't mine! :KS

Why would anyone need to lie about such a thing? (Unless they were a salesman of course!)

Sp@z, don't you think it's a psycological thing?

I don't know about that. The precision of my Logitech mouse is a bit dodgy, and ever since I tried using an application that would increase the resolution for it the mouse pointer at times takes small jumps across the screen for no apparent reason. Sometimes it's ever so slightly vibrating too.

Perhaps it's a case of a driver that wasn't written for your mouse, lower resolution and other weirdness that makes it unprecise.

Thanks for the replies. The games run excellant through Windows or Linux, I have zero complaints about that. :) YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!! I am more concerned with the hardware functioning at it's peak.........yes it is a distinct possibility that it is psychological, but I cannot put my finger on it.

PMJ wow my mouse doesn't have those issues. You got my kudos for being able to play at all like that...........
