Unless you want to run windows in a virtual machine(virtualbox/vmware), wine is your only choice. Can I ask what your trying to run, or what the software is meant to accomplish?

wine is less an application, and more a mini OS unto itself. a huge amount of work went into it, so no, no one else has created their own.

VMs are prolly your best bet if the app you want is relatively light. otherwise a dual boot is in order.

vmware and virtualbox allow you to install O/S's virtually. I currently run windows vista in virtualbox for the few apps that I'm forced to use. So as long your not wanting to run a heavy 3D graphics app, they should work for you. I personally have no experience with vmware, as I have only used virtualbox, but I'm sure somebody else can help you get it figured out.

Those people helping you should really look into the application itself.

It seems like something that embeds itself into various applications?
If so, say you ran it in VM, you would NOT get the WhiteSmoke application to show up in Linux apps, like Evolution, or the Linux version of Firefox etc.

I have a Dell laptop, dual boot, Juanty. I only keep Vista around for a few apps, otherwise majority of work is in Ubuntu. Any advice or pointers before running Vista in Virtualbox?

Well I've neverrun Vista in VM, but I have do so with XP and 7. It's pretty easy to set up, but keep in mind a VM is more resource intensive (since it's running Ubuntu and Vista at the same time) and you won't have full 3D support.

Can you point me to a good resource regarding VM setup and usage?

I guess just virtualbox.org (http://www.virtualbox.org) and/or its forums (http://forums.virtualbox.org/), as well as the Ubuntu subforum on Virtualization (http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=308).

Virtualbox is really easy, once you install it you take the CD of whatever OS and put it in your drive, then tell the new VM to look there. The pdf manual for Virtualbox (http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/3.0.8/UserManual.pdf) is really helpful too.

Hi,

Abiword is a well respected word processing program with both Windows and Linux versions (it may already be installed in Ubuntu) . It has both spell and grammar checking (see its Preferences).

You could try it to see if it suits you. If it does not, then you may need at least 1 GB RAM to try a more complex solution.

My regards
