There's a fresh new project called Gnome-paint. It's based on MS Paint, and is creating a simple and useful paint program for gnome. We can say that it get the job done on 90% of cases for normal users. Let's help it's development and vote on Brainstorme.

I got this error when I tried to download it:
/tmp/gnome-paint_0.1-1_i386-1.deb could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences.

it is in the repo, but it's still incomplete, lot of stuff still don't work.
