Ok, I am having serious problems with sound in games. I have gotten sound working in small games like supertux but not in commercial games. I was wondering if i get cedega do you think that might fix the problem? I want to get it, but if i can't ge sound working inside of games with it I will just go to another distro that I can get sound working in.

I would have a read over the unofficial cedega wiki first to see if your games will actually work well with cedega before commiting.

The will I want to play Guild Wars and Counter Strike source. I am like addicted to them and they are officially supported by cedega currently I play them on my laptop, but would like to move them to my desktop so that I can commit my laptop to more of work and school than gaming work and school.

Some information on your current sound setup might help with diagnosing the problem. What version of ubuntu are you running? What is your sound card? Are you setup to use alsa or esd?

Well I am using Breezy.
Sound Blaster Live card.
Pretty sure it is useing ESD. I have tried killing it and running a game that didn't work.
I have done some searching on how to set everything up using alsa but haven't been to successful.

Install the Cedega time demo, it installs really easily. I could run Guild Wars straight away, with sound.
Go here for my experiences setting up Guild Wars, it could save you some time & get you a more satisfying game experience:

I tried to make it detailed & simple...:KS

I guess I could try the demo again. I tried it once, in suse, and it plain sucked. I installed Guild Wars and never got it working everytime I tried it crashed my whole computer just straight shut it down. Maybe it will do better in Ubuntu. I just hope that it will let sound work. :)
I'll try it and let youknow.

I can't do the demo anymore. Apparently they check your ip so that you don't demo it several times. Which sux because I want to demo it on different distros but may not switch distros for couple of weeks at atime.
