I have a netbook with an Intel atom 1.6 ghz processor. I've tried a couple multiplayer shooter games, but they all seem to freeze my computer. Are there any that are fairly lightweight but still allow me to kill some aliens or people?

Quake 3 should run good on a bit lower settings..I think it should be around 30 FPS. Same with Open Arena.

On my grandfathers Acer Aspire One Netbook that he had, that I had for awhile when I had a part on my machine die, I had a copy of Unreal Tournament Game of The Year edition..

It's bound to run...

I've gotten it to run on Linux before.. but only in Windowed mode :( Always crashed my system when it was in Full Screen

But the game is old enough it should run on a cardboard box. ^^

The game has a native linux version which you can buy from tuxgames.com, but is it so old that you can not just assume that it will work.

A very cool, cartoon-graphics-style, first person shooter which will work is warsow, which can be obtained from the webpage, www.warsow.net

I was never assuming that it worked..

I knew it works.

Because I am a big player on the UT series..

But yeah... I know there's a linux installer.. but I didn't want to go through all the trouble if it works in Windowed mode in WINE anyway.. because I prefer windowed against full screen anyway.

For a free alternative Quake Live (http://www.quakelive.com/) works well on my Aspire One Netbook.
It's a browser based version of Quake 3 with some updates.
It's supported on Linux, Mac and Windows so it has a pretty decent sized player base.

You can try Urban Terror at the lowest graphics setting. It's similar to Counterstrike but with unique features that make it more fun. It has tons of active multi-player servers.

Also try Tremulous. It's a very original game combining first person shooter and real time strategy. It's a lot of fun and there are many active servers on which you can play.

Let me know what you think about them. :)
