This is one of my recent sketches which I made for a contest at conceptart.org I've a few friends who immediately took to using my original artwork on their desktops so I figured I'd release a really dark wallpaper with the "flamer". Have fun! It's free for your enjoyment.

The actual drawing is fantastic, but I'd say that, as a wallpaper, it doesn't work. The ubuntu logo is redundant, the edges of the original are too obvious and plain black just doesn't make for a very good desktop in general. Still, if you have more work in a digital form, please share it here.

Hello Vincent,
Black works great for backgrounds, I have many of them. It works especially well with dark themes, of course it's all a matter of taste.
The folks who were running my original drawing simply used a black background with the image centered on their desktops.
Here's the original:

Almost all of my works are digital and usually showcased on my site.
I don't normally make wallpapers out of my works, so I appreciate the crits.

Does it only seem to me that everybody started to depict Ubuntu Karmic as a monstrosity?

Hey Alex, it's not intended to depict Ubuntu, especially any particular version as a monster. It's merely a wallpaper with a faded Ubuntu logo on it.
The idea of depicting Karmic as a monster is a good one though. I might work something up :)

Karmic Koala... Karmic Koala... that really doesn't sound like a monster. Sounds more like a puppy.

Funny, I was thinking exactly the same thing.
I thought people would be koala mad at the moment :)
Still, like the beholder. Nice work :)
