If you needed to create a character sheet for a traditional paper-and-pencil RPG, what program would you use to do it?

For what game? Since a lot of them are already created.
Have a look here:

Otherwise I'd use something like Gimp, Open Office Writer and/or Draw.

For a new game which doesn't have a character sheet as of yet. Something that could lay out the boxes and text in an appealing way, having everything lined up nicely instead of having to free-form everything.

I would use the OpenOffice.org Spreadsheet. I've done it before, and it works much better than Writer, since I tried there first.

Can it make professional looking results, with the nice rounded boxes, pretty layout and all that?
