Where do I shutdown, reboot and suspend? I can't find the software button to do this. I've been using the physical power button and after the latest updates this goes immediately into shutdown, rather than prompting first.

I do a light touch on the power button and receive a prompt.

yeah thats the thing. in moblin, there is no software button. Its made for you to push the physical power button and receive a prompt menu screen - with the option of shutdown, restart, and suspend.
or you can open the terminal and type one of the following:
sudo poweroff
sudo shutdown -h now

On my HP Mini 1000 I'm only given the option to shut down after engaging the power button.
Also (this is probably a beta issue) after some recent updates, the prompt is now hidden under the desktop when I am on my home default desktop page. I have to hide the page so I can see the prompt.
I understand the goal of simplicity with just using the physical power button. However, having done computer tech support for a number of years in the past, I think it is highly likely that the majority of computer users are not going to grok this. Everyone is used to shutting down their computer etc, and not having a software option to do so is going to be confusing to a lot of people.
Most people only use the physical power button to shut down their computer when it is frozen. I know of some people who didn't power down for days when it was frozen because they didn't know that they could turn it off with the power button by holding it down for 2 seconds, while others yanked the power cord.

do you receive options for reboot and suspend? No, just shutdown. I agree that this isn't the best option for desktops because sometimes the unit is under a table somewhere, but I guess it's not too hard to find that button on a laptop or netbook. I don't hink it's a big deal, but I wonder how moblin will be received in general. I loved UNR right off the bat, but Moblin is not growing on me at all and I'm open minded towards Linux. I'm thinking the windows using masses might not buy in.

Moblin is a bit unintuitive. It does have the "coolness" factor going for it and it boots very fast, but it might be the case that the masses aren't into the abstract symbols etc.
I installed the plain version of Moblin 2.0 to test it out. I find the both Moblin and UMR are a bit limiting compared to UNR. I can't even find the place to set the default to list view for the file browser in Moblin 2.0. For me, it's easier to find what I need in UNR and also seems to have a lot more options and flexibility in configuration.
I'm going to continue using Moblin and if I am not happy with it, I'll install UNR when the stable release comes out.

See, I feel the opposite. I feel like the abstract symbols are the type of thing "the masses" love. Especially when they bounce around. It's almost like a version of the iphone/itouch OS for a netbook. Sure that OS is very difficult to use at times, but people love it because it looks cool, and has some unique advantages. Moblin is in that same niche, has some cool factor and some really neat advantages that you won't find elsewhere.
I actually don't think they take it far enough. I wish there was a little more integration with online apps... if I could keep my google calendar, contacts, emails etc. synced on my home screen along with FB and twitter, as well as link into my google documents, that would be breakthrough. I don't want to make my netbook run OO.o, evolution, or any of these other power-hungry apps. I've got a desktop for that. I want it to connect me to the services I use most.
Think about what UNR does... it connects you to everything already on your netbook. It's a cool interface, but it doesn't do anything new. It's a small screen friendly version of Gnome. Moblin is also small screen friendly, but that's where the similarity ends. I actually wish there were more online service modules, so I could customize "myzone" and the other icons on the dropbar to the apps I actually use most. But hopefully this will all come in time, it is still very new.

I ended up uninstalling Moblin 2.0. It wasn't very flexible for configuration and it would sporadically make a loud popping sound on my HP Mini 1000. That the default keyboard shortcuts for Alt left cursor and Alt right cursor drop me into TTY rather than letting me navigate through web pages while using a web browser like what is standard on practically every other operating system were the final straw.
I'm trying out Kubuntu netbook remix for a while. The interface isn't so great but everything seems to be working, even desktop effects were enabled and working out of box.

Where do I shutdown, reboot and suspend?
I am using Moblin beta 2.1 on an Acer ZG5. I discovered accidently that Ctrl-Alt-Del would reboot the machine.
Don't know if it will work the same with Ubuntu-Moblin or not. It's worth a try though.
Cheers.
