Well I suppose this will come off as kind of a rant but my frustration has come to a new level. I've spent a lot of time reading this and that and no matter how hard I try I cannot succeed.
So to run a mail server you need an MTA (postfix)and an MDA (dovecot) and a client to read mail. A web server to host a web client email program. And plethora of other things.
I've gone through too many "tutorials" on how to set this up on Ubuntu and every one of them is different, none of them get me to where I need to go, and I can't seem to find a package that will just allow a simple email server set up.
I am not even close to being a linux expert but I get by. I have several application servers that I am responsible for and manage to keep things going so I'm not a total newbie here.
My goal in all of this is to merely get the minimum necessary going to support mailman list server. I don't really need a complete mail server I don't think but that's where I get confused.
Any help with this would most appreciated. Maybe I'm just not doing a very good job understanding the "tutorials" and set up instructions I'm reading but I've done this kind of thing with many other platforms and applications and was able to figure things out. This for some reason is evading me.
Thanks to anyone that get me going....
