Ok, so I wanna play some, or one game in Ubuntu. As the title suggests I'm not having much luck. As of right now, I'm fighting, what seems to be, a losing battle trying to get WoW to play in WINE. I'm not asking for help with that, just giving some background on my situation.

I just downloaded Warsow, and as soon as I tried to play it I got a black screen and a continuous beeping noise. I watched a few videos of it online and it seems pretty cool. If anyone can help me to get it to work, I would greatly appreciate it.

Also, if anyone can suggest some other games. Right now I'm playing COD4 on PS3. I like fps, rpgs and srpg.

Thanks

Likely you don't have the hardware to handle gaming on Linux.
Whatever you use for video rendering will need to have atleast half decent OpenGL support.

From your other thread:

this is an old emachine that i bought from a friend of mine. will lspci give you the info you need?

You have an emachine (notoriously the worst computers ever built) with an intel video chipset.
Lax driver support and crappy opengl support is your main problem.

If you want to game on such a system you may want to consider dualbooting, or if possible build/buy a new computer with more reasonable hardware.

COD4 runs great in Wine with the latest patch. I play OpenArena (something like Quake 3) and I like it. Many Windows RPGs and MMORPGs run in Wine too. I play Tales Of Pirates and it's the same as in Windows but it runs even better I think.

If you want suggestions on games, search around a bit, there have been many threads about games (rpg, fps...)

Ok. So my opengl support sucks, does that mean pretty much no games, or just games with low graphics. Because graphics are not the most import part of gaming for me. I'm pretty much looking for something to kill just an hour or so, every once and a while.

Thanks

When Ubuntu 9.10 is released (which contain important Intel video fixes) youll be able to play a few light 3d games, such as Assault Cube (fps), Warzone 2100 (rts), and most 2d games. Also consider 16/8bit console emulation, and old pc gaming.

I suggest you wait for 9.10 before any further attempts, don't play anything with 9.04, people with Intel video should have avoided 9.04, even 8.10 is preferable.

I have a "legacy" ATI 1200X and I'm still running 8.10. I'm crossing my fingers about 9.10's support for we who got screwed by AMD/ATI. Here's hoping.
