View Full Version : [all variants] Disable on-board RAM on iBook G3?

I've got an old iBook G3 (900MHz) that I'd like to run some flavor of Ubuntu on. I've installed Ubuntu and Xubuntu at various times, but always suffered from system freezes, etc. I finally re-installed OS X and ran memtest, which ultimately caused a kernel panic. I pulled the 512MB chip, and ran it again, with the same result, so I guess it's safe to say the RAM on the motherboard is bad.

From what I've read online, there's no fix on the OS X side short of a motherboard replacement, and the computer's really not worth that expense, at this point. I'm wondering though, as an Ubuntu-newbie, is there some way once I have Ubuntu installed that I can tell it to ignore the RAM on the motherboard? 512MB alone ought to at least run Xubuntu comfortably, yes?
