RPG and Single Player don't really go hand in hand.

Uhm, theres really not anything thats going to be native alone those lines.

Edit: Theres the Battle of Wesnoth, Turn Based RPG, almost everyone here plays it, its Single Player and Online Play is availible too.

http://wesnoth.org/

Download there or check the repos.

RPG and Single Player don't really go hand in hand.

WHAT??? I've been playing Neverwinter Nights since 2002 and on Linux, using the native Linux game client since 2008, all solo play. I just don't think I'm, uh, ready for online play of that game, but there are numerous persistent world servers for that game.

Sorry, I haven't found one that was native to Linux and didn't suck. Especially one player.

I've never played it to be quite honest, but ignoring the sub-par graphics the gameplay could be half decent.

You can take a look at a kqlives, it's in the repos too.

There is also a good engine with a "demo" game.

Also in the Ubuntu repos.

LOLLLL your so helpful....not.

Rather than joke about people trying to help, why don't you help? What makes our suggestions not decent then?

did you not see the screenshots? who wants to play that?

CharmyBee

Well he did ask for the best game...

I don't see kqlives replacing Nethack any time soon. It's not even user-friendly: bad joystick init, forced to watch a long intro, and can't even terminate while running as it forced its fullscreen exclusive control.

Let me guess you determine the fun of a game by the look of it? I'm not saying i don't agree to a point, the graphics don't look great but game-play will always have first place for me and a lot of people.

The OP did not specify what type of graphics, just asked for single player experience.

dont get me wrong, every once in a while I dig out that old FF2 game and play my little heart out. But for a newer game that runs native on linux, its kinda dated dont you think?

Lukios

oh and yeah, he did say the "best" . . . .

Double poster!!!!

How about Exile 3?

Just scroll down to the bottom of the page it's the only one from the series ported to Linux, but it is oh so addictive once you get into it...

And yet again i say it, on one has the opinion on what is the "best" game out there, people are giving their suggestions, and unless you are suggesting a game why are you bothering to post here, it just seems like your trying to troll rather a lot.

Lukios
October 8th, 2009, 10:40 AM
I don't suggest one, because in my opinion (as of now till something better comes out) they all suck. But then again, there are a lot of windows games that will run on linux that are pretty decent.

The best single player RPG for Linux (after xevil) is this thing called ubuntuforums. You get to choose your avatar and try to solve computer problems, and collect beans along the way. :)

My true theory being is that Lukios is just sort of trolling without giving any decent advice. Just mindless posts really.

I thought that was multiplayer, you've got vs mode where someone gets to come up with problems, there's co-op too... Oh and you can't forget co-op vs...

Wesnoth if dealing solely with linux
FF3 (or FF6 depending on which numbering scheme you use) if not limiting to linux

Trust me, it's single player. The bots all insist they are human, but don't let them fool you. ;)

Clever bot did that to me once, I was really confused, especially when he called me a bot...

I realised I couldn't say anything to back up my claim that I wasn't a bot...

There is a rather torrid selection of native rpgs for Linux. Most incomplete, to outdated to play, or just plain ugly. Now I am not talking high end 3D graphics, but I agree that Exile 3 was and is incredibly addictive. It is vast, complex, and has a great story and a nice interface.

My complete favorite is called Lost Labyrinth... it is a blast, small, involved, complex and never plays the same twice. Get the 3.whatever version from http://lostlabyrinth.com

otherwise there are some java mmrpg's out there, too.
