Hi everybody,

I'm thinking about buying a larger tablet than the one I have now and I don't particularly want to shell out €500 for an Intuos A4. I saw that I could get a larger Aiptek HyperPen 12000U tablet for less than half the price. I have read some very positive but even more very negative comments about the Aiptek tablet. I also read that you have to hold the pen's button to draw. Is this true? If so it really defeats the prupose of having a tablet.

What are your experiences with those tablets? Also equally important, does it funtion under Ubuntu?

Thanks alot!

:)

I've had an Aiptek 8000U for several years. I like the tablet, but I've only got it working under windows. I've tried with several different kernels (under gentoo and ubuntu), but hasn't helped. And I actually have not heard that anyone has it working perfectly... there's always a problem with something like absolute mode or pressure sensitivity.

I'm actually considering switching to a Wacom tablet, since AFAIK they work under linux and development at aiptektablet.sf.net seems to be dead.

Nope. This is not true :).
