Ubuntu doesn't mount any removable devices?

Hi there,

I noticed I've got this problem with USB sticks, CD / DVD's, external HDD's etc. It wouldn't automount the devices I put in, I could just use


sudo mount /dev/something /media/something

and it would work. But just now I put in my phone via USB and I wanted to mount it manually:



daniel@daniel:~$ sudo mount /dev/sawk: cannot open /etc/fstab (Permission denied)


I typed "sudo mount /dev/sdb" and pressed tab, then I got the "awk: cannot open /etc/fstab (Permission denied)" text filled in?!

Very strange...

sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sdb1 /media/Phone

Where sdb1 is the location of your phone (you can check this with
sudo fdisk -l

I know how to mount manually via the CLI but I wonder why it doesn't automatically mount like it used to do?
