Live CD gives "[5.162415] Not responding" error after menu selection

I boot into a Ubuntu LiveCD with a 64-bit disk that has worked on other machines, and no matter what option i select, it tries to boot and i get one line that says "[5.162415] Not responding" and then the screen goes blank and nothing happens so i can't boot into the desktop or even the installer. Anybody have any ideas?
