View Full Version : [SOLVED] Can't Run Regnum, I don't have a video card!

Well. I attempted to run Regnum in a small barebones system, the specs are good, but I don't have any video card at all installed. When I try to install it simply says:
1.) Your video card is too old.
2.) You don't have the latest drivers.
3.) You don't have DirectX installed.
Would Regnum still work without a card?
Cause I don't have DirectX, but does Linux even need DirectX? Doesn't it use OpenGL?
Would it make a difference if instead of the linux version I just downloaded the windows exe and ran it through WINE?

Also why the hell aren't you trying the Linux version of Regnum?

It is the linux version. :l
Edit: Okay so what happened was I installed the linux version and it didn't work. Which was my original post. I got Regnum to work by installing the .exe and running it through Wine, because that allowed me to install DirectX. So in the end the Windows version actually worked better.

You don't need to install DirectX with WINE.
If you don't have decent video hardware (i assume you've got some integrated intel chipset) you're not going to be able to play regnum.

Yeah, like I said, its a barebones, meaning it was just a motherboard, and I bought all the other parts (CPU, Memory, Hard Drive, etc.) and it had NO video card.
But when I used WINE it still managed to get to the point where it updated, then it went to a black screen, but after I said Log-Out it asked me what world I wanted to create my character in. :|
It was a decent attempt, I will probably get my laptop which actually has an Intel Chipset, buts its a very advanced one, I still could play games like Spore and Left4Dead on it.
Edit: But you did seem to get pretty frustrated. Sorry, that was my first time trying to run a game on my Linux, and my first time running a program on WINE. I didn't know that it had its own built-in DX. Plus you didn't really have a right to be pissed off about how I didn't use a linux version, and if you read my original post it stated I did. I am just a noob.
Anyways, the threads pretty much dead now, and theres really nothing to argue about... Now we wait for a mod..

1. I wasn't pissed off.
2. You didn't say you tried the linux version, you asked if it would make a difference if you used the windows or linux version.
3. You have a video card of some sort even if it's integrated or you wouldn't be able to see anything on your screen.
I think you read a little too much into my posts..

1.) Okay, I can admit that was my mistake, I just figured from the wording that you were upset.
2.) I asked if I should INSTEAD try to download the exe and run it through WINE.
3.) I do not, I believe I know what is on my computer if I completely assembled it. I don't know why WINE simply allowed me to get further, but even on the linux and windows versions, I was led to a black screen afterwards.

If you have a monitor connected there is a video card.. simple as that.
Insisting otherwise is completely absurd. Onboard integrated video of any kind is still considered video.

Well then I guess graphics card is the proper wording then? I don't have a graphics card :P
