hey there. don't know where to ask so here I go.

I have an iMac G4 700, and this morning it crashed. It was working great and then crashed. I restarted and I got the "question mark folder" icon. My hard drive is good, don't know what happened.

What can I do?

Can I try to boot Ubuntu Live cd?

any suggestions??

I have the very same system running Karmic. Regardless what is going on with your hard drive, you should be able to boot from the live cd. My advice would be to see if you can access your files while running the live cd. If so, your drive is probably ok but I can't guess why it won't boot for you. I would probably use a usb hard drive or flash drive to back up my files (slow on usb 1 but do-able) and then reinstall although there may be a more elegant solution. Just casting my two cents. If your disk does turn out to be bad, you should be able to replace it with a standard IDE hard drive of your choosing.
