Hey Ubuntu-ers,
I am trying to become a better forum searcher so I can find answers easier and not post a question that has already been answered. I have tried using search operators like “World AND Clock” but it doesn’t seem to be effective. Are search operators used on this site? Can someone point me to a search HOWTO?
Thanks

Best way to do it (In my very humble opinion) is to use google and use the site operator with the Ubuntu Forums domain.
I like to use
site:ubuntuforums.org <searchword> OR <searchword>

I second Sutekh's suggestion. Works like a charm!

site:ubuntuforums.org <searchword> AND <searchword>
I though all Google searches are AND-ed, so AND is ignored?

Yep they are, thanks for pointing that out!

There is a way to change the search mechanism in vbulletin to use a standard method. I have been looking at it for a few months now and havent decided if it more beneficial yet.
But the above suggestion works too :)

IMHO it would be much more intuitive and efficient to enable boolean searching in vBulletin...
While it's easy enough to limit a Google search to a specific site, that doesn't solve the problem of not being able to use boolean operators when searching within a single sub-forum or thread. I can't begin to count the number of times I would have found what I was looking for much more quickly if I would have been able to use quotes or the AND operator to search within a single sub-forum or long thread.

I agree with PsTJsT here.
Before posting a question on the forum I try to do my
homework the best I can. Having more powerfull search
features enable would help for this purpose.
I tried the |Google hack and it worked O.K. but this
requires a dreaded "context switch"

I aggree: boolean operators would be nice!
I have the feeling the current search does an OR on my keywords, what makes searching really hard. especially when one doesnt know exactly what to look for... like noobs = me
